Window Medics Frequently Asked Questions +

Q: How much does it cost to have my windows restored vs. replaced?

A: The cost to restore a window is typically 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of replacement. Window size and style will have a bearing on the cost, so call your local Window Medics International dealer for a FREE On-Site Inspection. In addition to saving money, Window Medics helps you protect the environment because NO replacement window glass needs to be sent to our landfills.

Q: Our fog is not intermittent but constant. Would this indicate a seal has failed rather than difference in temperature? Would your method still work?

A: The presence of fog or condensation is a function of the amount of water vapor in the window system and temperature fluctuations. Our Window Medics process will solve this problem.

Q: How do you support the advertised 20-year warranty? Is there evidence to indicate how long your process lasts?

A: Our 20-year warranty is supported by the Window Medics process, which re-engineers your window system by installing a mirco-valve. It allows moisture to be expelled while keeping new moisture out of the window system. However, if moisture cannot be expelled from a treated window system, we will re-service the site or refund your account.

Q: I live on the 5th floor of a eight story high-rise building. My living room window, 5ft x 4 ft, has failed. Can you repair this from the inside?

A: Yes we can fix your windows. We do work on low and high-rise commercial buildings from the inside. Our process allows us to drill both panes of glass (interior and exterior) and vent the window. Your local Window Medics Dealer will be able to give you more details after a FREE On-Site Inspection.

Q: What will the R-Value be after the Window Medics process has been completed?

A: Generally speaking, the 'R' in a standard thermal pane is in a range of 3.2 to 4.3. A window that has water vapor in the interior air space (even if condensation has yet to appear) is full of wet air. Our process replaces the wet air with dry air. Dry air is a better insulator than wet air, which restores R- value close to that of a new unit.

Q: Is there any visible change to the window viewing area from installing the vent and hole drilling?

A: The small access holes and vents used in our window restoration process are practically invisible. They are discreetly positioned in the corners of insulated glass units, outside of the main window viewing area. Most upper vent holes are usually covered by blinds or drapes. The lower vent hole can only be seen from an oblique angle and is not very obvious. Most clients are very happy with the dramatic increase in the main viewing area of their old foggy window, after the condensation has been removed.

Q: What about restoring windows that have been filled with argon gas?

A: We can restore most of the R-value to a window originally filled with argon gas. The argon, in all probability, has been released from a window before condensation begins to form. The best we can do is restore most of the original R-value just slightly less than an argon-filled window. The Window Medics Solution will have more R-Value than a window filled with wet air.

Q: Can you handle the type of window with a plastic film in the middle?

Q: Some of our Windows have shades or blinds in between the glass, can your process be used in our case?

A: Yes, the Window Medics process works on windows with internal shades or blinds. We need to exercise some caution when applying our restoration solutions. Please contact your local Window Medics Dealer for a FREE On-Site Inspection.

Q: How long does it take after your process is completed for my window to be clear?

A: There is no exact answer to how long it takes for a window to clear. There are three main variables; window size, it’s orientation to the sun and the amount of moisture in the window system. After our process, most restored windows are clear when we leave them. If desiccant moisture absorbing materials are still wet, a window may continue to produce some fog until these desiccant moisture absorbing materials dry out. If there is streaking in the window after our restoration process please call us back and we’ll fix it as part of our guarantee.

Q: Will window cleaning and chemicals (both inside and out) have a harmful effect on restored windows and the valves you install?

A: Window cleaning will not affect a restored window, however always exercise caution when cleaning around window valves and seals. Clean your restored windows with clear water and position yourself externally flush with the valves. Avoid putting harsh chemicals directly on the micro-valves installed as part of the Window Medics Solution.

Q: Does your valve installation remove existing streaks created by moisture between the thermal window panes? What about dust created during the drilling process?

A: Window Medics Dealers must wash, rinse and use a drying agent in order to fully restore your windows. We have special tools and techniques that allow us to scrub your thermal window panes from the inside. We can remove streaks, dirt and debris that form in between thermal window panes

Q: What happens to the streaks that are now between the window panes after your process?

A: Your Window Medics dealer needs to inspect a streaking window before confirming all the streaking can be removed. At times, it can be difficult to access what can be removed without an On-Site Inspection. Call us and schedule a FREE On-Site Inspection TODAY. If windows are in an early failure stage, with moisture and streaking caused by condensation running down the window; it can be removed. During our Window Medics International window restoration process we wash, rinse and dry the inside faces of your thermal window panes. We have special tools and techniques that allow us to scrub thermal window panes from the inside.

Q: Why doesn't your warranty include a guarantee for streak-free windows?

A: If our restoration service is done properly on a restorable window, streaking will not be an issue. Once the moisture has been removed from the window, streaking can occur as moisture in the window reacts with our drying agents. In some cases, the streaking is caused by mineral deposits in the moisture, which precipitate as it condenses and evaporates. Our process is designed to remove most, if not all of the debris that has accumulated prior to the glass getting damaged.
